It's that time of year again folks. We would love to ask you some questions and would greatly appreciate it if you could take the time to respond to our anonymous survey.
Why is this important to us? Our websites survive mainly due to those who choose to advertise their games on our websites. Advertisers typically (and understandably) want to know who they are advertising to, therefore, our survey gives us a snapshot view of our audience in 2025.
This year we're trying to keep things quite focused and have boiled everything down to 20 simple questions. Some of them are about you, some of them about which platforms you own and the games you buy and finally where you typically get your gaming news. All questions are optional, but any personal questions will contain a 'Prefer not to say' option.
We are running the same survey across all Hookshot websites; that is Nintendo Life, Push Square, Pure Xbox and Time Extension. You only need to answer it once, and it doesn't matter which site you do it on.
We will run more site-specific surveys in due course.
Hookshot Reader Survey 2025
About You (1 of 4)
Firstly, we need to know a little bit about you. Please remember that this information is always anonymised and helps potential advertisers know what kind of audience they can reach on our websites. All questions are optional or have 'Prefer not to say' options.
Gaming Platforms (2 of 4)
Next, we want to understand which gaming hardware you currently own, what you intend to buy soon and which subscriptions you currently have.
Gaming Habits (3 of 4)
Next, we'd like to understand how many games you buy, where you buy them, what format and genres you prefer.
Gaming News (4 of 4)
Finally, we want to see which of our websites you visit and where else you typically get your gaming news.
Phew, you did it! Thank you so much for sharing your responses with us.
Your personal responses will be kept private in line with our privacy policy and will only be used to share anonymised and aggregated responses to our questions.
What was your favourite question this year? Are you disappointed we didn't ask about your dog's favourite game? Let us know in the comments below.

“Where else do you get your gaming news?“ should have both an “other” and “none” option.
questions 8 and 9 should have a 'none' option
Several questions have don't have a none or n/a option.
@lyle_catcliffe It should have also included an option for "Nintendo Today!" since I get that notification before anyone can report on it happening.
Took the survey - answered all questions except for number 8 and 20 as none applied for me and for some reason there wasn't a "none" option unlike in other ones (would've been great if there had been, not sure if it can still be added at this point @antdickens)!
Done.
An 'I have no plans to purchase hardware in the next 6 months' option for that question would be very much appreciated. I can't be shelling out for a 2nd PC!! Ahaha
In 6 months to buy hardware should have the option for none
I'm a little surprised the only options were 'full priced games' and 'indies'. I buy a lot of on-sale major games so those didn't get counted.
The final question needs an ‘Other’ option.
@Blaa @JohnnyMind @Misima @Smithicus thanks for the quick feedback, I've added some more 'None' and 'Other' options!
Finished. Where do I go for my cookie?
Done. I hope that it helps Nintendo Life and those who advertise here.
@Tasuki I had to make do with this.
@_747_ thank you! Yes, every response counts and helps 😇
@Tyranexx I'd take a game over a cookie any day lol.
Finished can I go now?
Not in six months, but I could see myself having a Switch 2 in a year, maybe a little longer than that, unless something drastic happens. So that option would've been nice 🤣. Overall well-designed poll, though!
I was a little confused by the “full price games” question. Was that referring to “games with an RRP of £60” or “games that aren’t on sale”?
@Munchlax yeah, full price basically meaning games not on sale.
@Tyranexx I'd happily take that game. I love the 2 player mode.
@Munchlax Agreed, I think it was supposed to refer to AAA releases.
Surprised there was nothing about Games On Sale, since 99.9999972549% of my purchases are on sale.... Yes, that's totally a number that I did the math on....
I generally do not buy games at $70. But I will buy those same games on sale. So I was confused by the language in that question
Thanks NintendoLife, I've been visiting for years, hope the data is helpful 🫡
I have participated the polling.
But I wish there is option for having the Retro video games as I also collect the Retro games like PS2, Wii, NDS, etc.
I always wonder what they do with this data. Wonder who they sell it to.
Physical vs digital is not i don't care. It's it depends on a lot of things.
Online games and games I play a little here and there I'm fine with digital.
For major games I play from start to finish I prefer physical.
Please do a Nintendolife podcast. Please. Thank you! Long form chats about the weeks news - perfect.
@Ryu_Niiyama It's sold to your personal Nintendo Ninja so he can better understand his target
Nintendo life, IGN and direct from Nintendo via social media for me. I also love a weekly podcast like NVC. I’d love NintendoLife to do something similar.
@Ryu_Niiyama we don’t sell the data, we use it to pluck out audience stats that we can share with potential advertisers… eg “x% of our users have a Switch 2”
Done! Hope it helps!
My favourite question was my age, as i didn't have to scroll all the way to 1983 like everywhere else, and lose an hour of my day with my arthritic hands 🤣
Aww no 3DS among the possible answers about the hardware...
Somehow messed up the last answer and the Xbox instead of None 😂
Considering there wasn't a shred of Xbox usage for the whole of the questionnaire, that will completely confuse some specific stat 😂
The genre section was a bit barebones.
Out of those options, which category do games like Animal Crossing, Hello Kitty Island Adventure, Farm Together, MySims, etc fall into? Simulation?
@antdickens
Just finished filling out the survey, saw your profile and realised I've been a reader here for so long and never really reflected on you founding it and never got a chance to say thanks so...
Anthony — thanks for founding Nintendo Life and steering it all these years. I used to bounce around outlets like IGN, Nintendojo, Nintendoexpress and others when looking for news, and even wrote for a few of those back in the day. But for a long time now, Nintendo Life has simply been the place I come back to — easily the most likable and enjoyable Nintendo site for me.
Of course there are occasional pieces that don’t hit my taste (the recent Star Wars back-and-forth on quality issues comes to mind), but overall the coverage is consistently excellent, balanced, and passionate. It shows that the site is built by people who genuinely care.
So yeah, wanted to take this opportunity to give some proper thanks. Keep up the great work, which goes for the full team as well — it’s very much appreciated!
Answered them all, and looking forward to seeing the results.
Keep up the good work!
Is it mean I laughed when you asked if I went to your Xbox site?
Android/iOS aren't listed as gaming platforms, as expected. 😎
Jokes aside, NETFLIX and Crunchyroll subscriptions are saving gaming on Android, and I appreciate it. NETFLIX and Crunchyroll do what Google don't, ironically.
Also, visual novels aren't listed as genre option. 😢
@Kingy My Nintendo Ninja does a great job as every time I look there is a new game to buy! But not here though. I use an adblocker here. lol.
@antdickens welp gotta keep the lights on. Good to know.
I took my medicine do I get a lollipop?
Should have had a category
Are you a complainer on the site?
Or
Are you a complainer of complainers on the site?
This is important data
I has done it at last
I might have answered "How many full price games do you typically buy a year?" wrong. I thought it was how many games do you buy not on sale. But now I think it refers to AAA $60 games.
The wording is a little confusing.
@Kiyata those games are usually referred to as life sims, so I would go with simulation.
It was kind of upsetting to only click one console when I have so damn many 😂
For the first time I've had to think about the physical vs. digital question. Jon formerly from NintendoLife here published a video today about the Star Wars: Outlaws situation and how the game probably couldn't have run properly on Switch 2 physical media. Switch 2 cartridges read at only 400MB/s vs. 2.1GB/s internal storage. Never have I felt so much like I may actually be getting a worse experience if I buy certain games physically.
I think Nintendo really dropped the ball this gen with their physical media, it really seems to lack feature parity with digital.
